Renowned Nigerian gospel singer, Bolaji Olanrewaju—popularly known as Big Bolaji—has been laid to rest in Ibadan, Oyo State, following his death on April 19 after a brief illness. He was 50.
The final rites began on Wednesday with a solemn lying-in-state and funeral service held at the Hall of Grace, Jogor Centre, Ibadan. The event drew an emotional crowd of family members, friends, gospel artistes, and fans who came to pay their last respects to the beloved minister.
Among those present were leading figures in Nigeria’s gospel music scene, including Mike Abdul, Tosin Bee, Bidemi Olaoba, Yetunde Are, and comedian Woli Agba. Tears flowed freely as pallbearers carried Big Bolaji’s flower-laden casket into the packed venue.
A stirring tribute video chronicling his vibrant ministry and musical legacy moved many in the audience to tears and earned standing ovations. Speaker after speaker described him as a passionate worshipper, a devoted servant of God, and a mentor to many young gospel talents.

The funeral procession later moved to All Souls Private Cemetery in Ido, where the late gospel icon was interred in the presence of his wife, siblings, and other loved ones.
Big Bolaji was best known for his energetic praise sessions and unwavering dedication to spreading the gospel through music. His contributions to gospel music and youth ministry over the years left a lasting imprint on both the church and entertainment circles.
He is survived by his wife, children, and extended family.
