The Federal Ministry of Finance has denied allegations of irregularities in the award of contracts worth ₦13 billion between February and June 2024, describing the reports circulating online as false and malicious.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry said the claims lack any factual basis and reaffirmed its adherence to due process and the Public Procurement Act in all contract awards during the period in question.
The report had accused the Ministry—under the leadership of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and Permanent Secretary Lydia Shehu Jafiya—of violating procurement procedures, including those related to the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG).
Reacting to the allegations, the Ministry described them as an attempt to discredit ongoing economic reforms led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

“This attempt to tarnish the image of the Honourable Minister and the Permanent Secretary is not only baseless but clearly intended to distract from the critical economic reforms being implemented under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement read.
Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations, who signed the statement, said the Ministry remains committed to transparency, openness, and accountability.
He also warned against the spread of unverified information and stated that legal action would be pursued against any false and defamatory publications.
The Ministry concluded by urging the public to disregard the report and reiterated its focus on managing the country’s economy responsibly and ethically.
