The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has announced strengthened collaboration with LPV Technologies, a Nigerian solar manufacturing firm, as part of efforts to localize clean energy production and reduce capital flight in the renewable energy sector.
REA Managing Director, Abba Aliyu, made the pledge during a visit to LPV’s solar panel manufacturing facility in Lagos. He praised LPV as one of Nigeria’s most efficient clean energy companies, highlighting its role in supporting the country’s energy transition and creating jobs.
“This is a strategic plant, locally built and globally competitive,” Aliyu said. “LPV’s capacity to produce high-quality solar panels domestically is critical to reducing our reliance on imported systems.”
Aliyu stated that Nigeria requires about $410 billion to fully execute its energy transition plan, including at least $40 billion to close the electricity access gap. He said local companies like LPV would be essential in achieving these targets.
Citing employment data, he noted that Nigeria—despite its potential—created only 70,000 renewable energy jobs last year, compared to China’s 7 million in the same period. “We must turn our electricity access challenge into a job creation opportunity,” he said.
He also commended LPV’s integration of technology and traceability, saying its solar panels could compete with any global brand in both quality and automation.

The visit also highlighted REA’s collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to solarize police stations nationwide. The initiative, backed by a signed Memorandum of Understanding, will leverage LPV’s production standards to ensure durability and performance.
In his remarks, LPV Technologies Chairman, Mr. Nzan Ogbe, stressed the importance of decentralized, scalable energy systems in reducing power costs and improving access across the country.
“What we’re doing here is beyond manufacturing—we are creating affordable, resilient, and context-adaptable energy solutions,” Ogbe said.
Also present at the event was the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, emphasizing the growing multi-agency partnerships aimed at expanding Nigeria’s clean energy footprint using local innovation.
