FG Declares June 6 and 9 Public Holidays for Eid-ul-Adha

The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the government in a statement released by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

In his message, Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated all Muslim faithful in Nigeria and the diaspora on the occasion.

He urged the Muslim community to continue to embody the spirit of sacrifice and faith as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him), and to use the period to pray for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

The Minister also assured Nigerians that the people-oriented reforms and initiatives carried out in furtherance of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda are aimed at restoring Nigeria on the path of progress.

He called on all Nigerians to join hands with the present administration in its efforts to restore the nation’s glory.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant Islamic holidays, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.

The holiday is marked by special prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.

The declaration of these public holidays allows Muslims across the country to observe the festival and its associated traditions.
