The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the cancellation of the traditional military parade initially planned to commemorate the 26th Democracy Day on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Democracy Day Celebration, it was disclosed that President Bola Tinubu will deliver a nationwide broadcast at 7:00 a.m.
However, unlike in previous years, there will be no ceremonial parade.
Instead, President Tinubu is scheduled to attend a special joint session of the National Assembly at 12:00 noon.
The session will include key addresses on the State of the Nation, reflections on Nigeria’s democratic progress, and renewed emphasis on national unity and reform.

The event will bring together senior government officials, political leaders, and civil society representatives under the theme: “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms.”
Citizens are encouraged to tune in to the presidential broadcast and engage in the ongoing national dialogue aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and advancing key reforms.
