Fear grip residents, as Covid-19 case rise to 244 in Oyo state….. hoodlums hijack distribution of palliatives

Residents of Oyo  state are now living in fear, as reported cases of Covid-19 now stood at 244 with additional reported four cases.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, (NCDC) in a release revealed that four newly reported  cases were among the 229 cases recorded in 15 states of the Federation.

Stakeholders have attributed the geometric increase to the state government’s approach to the containment of the virus.

The state government, according to our findings lacks the political will to implement its safety measure policy, as people move around without face masks.

Also, the safety measure of social distancing is not observed in the state, while religious activities are going on unhindered in some parts of the state.

Some of the stakeholders who preferred condition of anonymity said Oyo state is now experiencing what community spread which will be difficult to contain.

The stakeholders, therefore,called on the government to step up campaign on the prevention of the spread of Coronavirus especially in rural areas.

In a related development, hoodlums have hijacked distribution of palliative in Ibadan, and some major cities in the state.

An aged woman was reportedly knocked down by hit and run driver in Akanran, Ona Ara local government area of the state while struggling to get her own share of the palliative.

Our findings revealed further that the palliatives were being diverted while the would be beneficiaries waited in vain at designated spots in the state.
