False Alarm: No Explosion in Jigawa, Say Police

A petrol tanker crash in Jigawa State could have ended in tragedy but didn’t. The police said there was no explosion, no fire outbreak, and no fuel scooping after a tanker carrying 60,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) crashed in Ringim Local Government Area on Thursday, 1st of May , 2025.

This update came through a press statement from the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam.

According to him, a Howa tanker trailer with registration number Kano 549 BNK, driven by 50-year-old Muhammad Ali of Yankatsari village, was headed to Gujungu town in Taura LGA from Lagos when the incident happened.

The driver, attempting to avoid an oncoming trailer near Zangon Kanya village, tried to navigate through a narrow local traffic diversion. He lost control, and the vehicle tipped off the road.

“As a result of which, the vehicle fell off the road. Subsequently, the fuel started spilling on the road,” the police statement said.

SP Shiisu said the Divisional Police Officer of Ringim and his team responded immediately. Emergency services, including the Fire Service and the Federal Road Safety Corps, were also called in.

“So far, no explosion or fire outbreak was recorded,” the PPRO said. He assured that the situation was stable and fully under control.

What would’ve been a disaster became a close call instead.
