Remains of the immediate past governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, were on Sunday buried in Ibadan, the state capital.
Amid tight security, Ajimobi was buried according to Islamic rites at his 6th Avenue, Yemoja Street, Oluyole Estate residence in Ibadan.
Oyo State Government did not approve Agodi GRA, which the Ajimobi family had preferred as his burial site, due to the litigation on the property.
Ajimobi’s body was laid to rest at 10:05am.
The former governor died at the age of 70 at a Lagos hospital last Thursday after an illness relating to multiple organ failure.
His remains were said to have been buried in strict compliance with the COVID-19 protocols.
Less than 20 people, including wife of the former governor, Chief Florence Ajimobi, and other members of his immediate family, were in attendance.
Heavily armed policemen took strategic positions at the residence of the deceased.
Also, movements in and out of the neighbourhood were controlled as the burial ceremony held.
Party faithful and other loyalists of the late politician were barred from the scene of the funeral.
Prayers will be held for the repose of his soul at the Senator Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi Mosque, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, at 12 noon.
