Ex-Bauchi LGA Chair Killed in Attack Linked to Son’s Acquaintances

A former chairman of Jama’are Local Government Area in Bauchi State, Isa Wabi, has been killed in a violent attack allegedly carried out by acquaintances of his son.

The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday, noting that the attack occurred in the early hours at Wabi’s residence in the Fadaman Mada area, behind Government Girls’ Secondary School in Bauchi.

Police officers responded to a distress call and found Wabi in critical condition with multiple stab wounds to the neck.

He was immediately taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

According to police investigations, the attack was allegedly perpetrated by two individuals — Ahmad Abdulkadir (alias Abba) and Faruk Malami (alias Ajebo) — who were reportedly close associates of Wabi’s 24-year-old son, Abdulgafar Isa Mohammed.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects broke into the victim’s home around 3 a.m. and conspired to carry out the assault,” the police said.

In a surprising development, one of the suspects, Malami, was found unconscious at the scene, reportedly as a result of a retaliatory act.

Authorities stated that he has been cooperative and is providing valuable information as part of the ongoing investigation.

“The Command is conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all responsible parties are brought to justice,” the statement added.

Following the attack, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, visited the victim’s family to offer condolences and assure them of the command’s commitment to a fair and comprehensive investigation.

The police have urged the public to remain calm as the investigation continues.
