Eid-el-Kabir: Be Truthful, End Waste, Ease Nigerians’ Pain, PDP tells Tinubu

As Muslims across the country mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to use the sacred occasion as a turning point—by ending what it calls “profligacy, deception, and economic mismanagement” that have brought hardship to citizens.

In a statement signed by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party congratulated Muslims on the occasion of the Sallah celebration, urging Nigerians to “reinforce their faith in divine intervention” despite overwhelming economic, social, and security challenges.

While emphasizing the spiritual importance of sacrifice and submission to God that Eid-el-Kabir represents, the PDP accused the Tinubu administration of failing to live up to these values.

“The APC government must imbibe the fear of God and end their profligacy, exploitation, deceit, and manipulations that have brought untold hardship to Nigerians,” the statement read.

The party expressed concern over the “pervading sense of gloom,” describing the country as a “large killing field” where citizens are left vulnerable to terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers amid worsening insecurity.

It also decried the rising cost of living, calling on the federal government to cut down fuel prices, electricity tariffs, and service charges which have become unbearable for ordinary Nigerians.

“The APC government must take immediate steps to recover the over N30 trillion reportedly stolen by known APC leaders through various fraudulent oil deals and other misappropriations,” the PDP charged, urging that such recovered funds be redirected to national development.

Further criticizing the Tinubu-led administration for “reckless borrowing,” the party warned that continued mortgaging of the nation’s future without tangible benefits is unsustainable and unjust.

In a direct appeal to President Tinubu, the PDP said:

“Mr. President must use the remaining two years of his administration to redeem his image as a leader by being more sensitive towards the wellbeing of Nigerians.”

The party encouraged citizens to remain hopeful, patriotic, and supportive of one another in these trying times, insisting that collective prayers and acts of kindness remain vital for national healing.

“Happy Eid-el-Kabir to all Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
