Despite the sit-at-home directive issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) in honour of Biafra’s fallen heroes, Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, witnessed significant human and vehicular activity on Friday.
Major streets in the city were bustling with movement as workers reported to their offices and businesses operated without restriction. Banks, motor parks, and shops opened as usual, indicating a general non-compliance with the order.

While most markets remained active and commercial operations continued uninterrupted, some schools opted to keep their gates shut, citing concerns over the uncertainty surrounding the directive. Even in schools that remained open, attendance by students and pupils was noticeably low, as many stayed home due to fear of potential unrest.
The atmosphere across the capital city, however, remained calm and devoid of security patrols or disturbances. Residents went about their normal activities peacefully, and no incidents of violence or enforcement linked to the sit-at-home order were reported.
