Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has issued a directive to all Commissioners of Police and Assistant Inspectors-General supervising formations across the country to step up intelligence gathering, increase patrols, and strengthen overall security ahead of Easter.
The order, announced Friday, April 18, is intended to provide a safe and peaceful atmosphere for Nigerians as Christians nationwide prepare to observe the 2025 Easter festivities.
In a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police chief also extended his best wishes to the Christian community.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has extended his warmest felicitations to the Christian community on the occasion,” the statement read.

“The IGP acknowledges the significance of the celebration, which symbolizes hope, renewal, and sacrifice; and encourages Christians to reflect on these values and continue to promote peace, unity, and goodwill in their communities.”
Egbetokun underscored the importance of deploying officers strategically across major roads, places of worship, fun spots, and public areas to prevent crime and guarantee a prompt response to any potential threats.
The IGP also urged Nigerians to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing credible information that could help avert disruptions during the holiday.
He further encouraged citizens to maintain awareness of their surroundings, embrace moderation in their activities, and exercise caution on the roads throughout the Easter period and beyond.
Adejobi concluded, “The Nigeria Police Force reassures the public of its commitment to ensuring a peaceful and crime-free Easter celebration for all. May the spirit of Easter bring peace, joy, and blessings to all.”
