President Bola Tinubu has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to stay focused on his work and ignore those criticising him.
Tinubu gave the advice on Tuesday, June 10, while commissioning the newly renovated International Conference Centre in Abuja, which has now been renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
Speaking at the event, the President praised Wike’s efforts in transforming Abuja and dismissed those who have been questioning his place in the government.
“And I am glad, Nyesom Wike, you are reflecting that. Don’t pay attention to busybodies and the bystanders, and whatever they say. Continue with your good work. You are a transformational leader. You have the vision, foresight and determination to succeed,” Tinubu said.
The President explained that the upgraded conference centre was part of his administration’s broader plan to reshape how things are done and to reflect the values Nigerians hold—strength, resilience, and determination.
He said the Renewed Hope Agenda remains focused on rebuilding the country’s key sectors, including transportation, healthcare, education, energy, and urban development.

“Through the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are determined to renew the infrastructural and other key sectors of this country (including) transportation, healthcare, education, energy and urban development.
“Because we understand that modern infrastructure is the backbone of a thriving economy in an inclusive and progressive society,” he said.
Tinubu also noted that the conference centre reflects Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to diplomacy, trade, and global partnerships.
In a lighter moment, he warned that the newly refurbished centre would not be available for free.
“You must obey what the landlord says. You want to use this place, you gonna pay for it,” Tinubu added, backing Wike’s earlier statement that the facility would now attract usage fees.
The event was attended by top government officials including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Finance Minister Wale Edun, Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi, and Wike himself.
