In a decisive move to strengthen security operations across Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri has donated 31 new operational vehicles to various security agencies operating within the state.
The official handover ceremony took place on Thursday at the Government House in Yenagoa, shortly after the 38th State Security Council meeting. The vehicles were distributed to service commanders of the Nigeria Police, Army, Navy, Air Force, and other paramilitary agencies.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the gesture aims to enhance the agencies’ capacity to combat crime and maintain law and order.
Governor Diri said the donation was in response to persistent requests from security heads for vehicular support during council meetings.
“It was a recurring decimal during our security council meetings for security commanders to request vehicular support. Today, we are gladly able to put this to rest,” Diri stated.
He outlined the distribution as follows: six vehicles to the Nigeria Police (including one for the Commissioner), four to the Directorate of State Services (DSS), and four each to the Nigerian Army and Navy (including those for the respective commanders). The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) received three vehicles.

Additionally, the Nigerian Air Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigerian Correctional Service, and Nigeria Immigration Service were each allocated two vehicles.
The governor charged the commanders to maintain the vehicles properly and redouble efforts in tackling crime across the state.
In a response on behalf of the service heads, the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Idu, expressed gratitude to the governor, describing the donation as timely and morale-boosting.
He assured that the vehicles would be utilized effectively and pledged the continued collaboration of all security agencies with the state government in promoting peace, justice, and good governance.
