Devastating Flood: NGF Sends Condolences to Niger State Govt

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sympathy following the destructive floods that swept through Mokwa town in Niger State.

In a statement issued on the 30th of May, 2025, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State and Chairman of the NGF said, “the Nigeria Governors’ Forum stands in solidarity with the government and people of Niger State on the devastating flood that has wreaked huge havoc in Mokwa town of the state.”

Describing the flood’s impact as overwhelming, Abdulrazaq stated, “We are shocked by the magnitude of the flooding, which has resulted in the loss of lives and properties in the community. We sincerely commiserate with the affected families and express our support to the state government at this difficult time.”

He also praised the response of the Niger State Government and its swift coordination with emergency teams. “We also commend the interventions of the Niger State Government and its coordination with the emergency responders to support the victims of this disaster,” he said.

Reflecting on the broader implications, the NGF chairman said the tragedy should not be overlooked.

“This flood disaster again reminds us of the stark realities of climate change and the accompanying effects on how we live. We commit ourselves as leaders of our people to continue to work with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to not only help our people to cope with this global challenge, but to strengthen mitigative actions and relief institutions.”

Abdulrazaq concluded with a prayer for comfort and healing, urging unity among citizens.

He encouraged everyone to rally behind ongoing relief efforts and work together with relevant agencies to reduce future risks.
