The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized 36,935 litres of petrol reportedly meant for illegal exportation from Adamawa and Taraba states.

The confiscated fuel was hidden in 1,219 jerry cans of different sizes, along with 24 drums that had capacities varying between 25 and 200 liters.

During a press conference held at the NCS Area Command headquarters in Yola, the Area Controller for Adamawa/Taraba, Bashir Garba, announced that an interception had occurred over the last four weeks.

He indicated that the petrol shipments were meant to ⁰be smuggled into a neighbouring country.

Garba disclosed that the total value of the seized petrol stood at ₦104,456,550.

In a similar operation, Customs officers confiscated 101 raw donkey skins, which were packed in seven sacks and intended for illegal export.

The area controller condemned the act, highlighting that the seizure represented the killing of 101 donkeys.

“This is unfortunate because donkeys serve various purposes and must be protected to prevent their extinction,” he said.

According to Garba, most of the petrol was seized at border exit points in Adamawa, while the remaining fuel and donkey skins were confiscated in Taraba State.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Customs Service to curbing smuggling and protecting Nigeria’s economic and environmental interests.
