Students of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) took to the streets in protest on the 3rd of April, 2025, demanding that the institution reverse its controversial “No Fees, No Examinations” policy.
Recently enacted, this policy bars students who have not settled their fees from sitting for their exams.
The protesters, holding placards and tree branches, marched across the university grounds, past hostels and administrative buildings, chanting powerful slogans. Some of their placards read: “Education is a Right, Not a Privilege” and “No Fees, No Exams, No Future.”

A student leader expressed outrage at the policy, stating, “Many of us are facing severe financial hardship, and this policy only adds to the burden. The university needs to find alternative solutions instead of preventing students from taking their exams.”
Another student voiced her frustration, saying, “If nothing changes, I might be forced into desperate measures like hook-up to survive. I have no means to pay, and my parents are unable to help. Please, urge the authorities to reconsider.”
When approached for a comment, university spokesman Onen Onen declined to speak to the media.
