Court sentences two armed robbers to death in Osun

An Osun State High Court has sentenced two armed robbers to death by hanging after four years of trial. The convicts are: Ayodeji Adeleke and Abiodun Oyedunmola.

Presiding Justice Falola found the suspects guilty of the charges preferred against them which include: armed robbery and conspiracy to steal.

The charges, according to the ruling were contrary to Section 1(1) and 2 (a) and 6(b) and punishable under Section 1(1)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provision) Act.

The prosecution counsel,, Barrister Muyiwa Ogunleye, submitted that the suspects attacked and robbed one Owolabi Muyideen of Oke Ika in his house on the 14th day of April, 2016.

“Also on the 3rd of April 2016, the convicts robbed one Bayepade Olubunmi. Pastor Afolabi Clement was another victim that was robbed on the 28th of March 2016 and on the 9th of December, 2015 by the same people and his properties were carted away by the gang. The incident was reported at police Station (B) Division Ila – Orangun”, he remarked.

Having listened to the arguments of the prosecution and defence counsel, the court ruled that the suspects were guilty of charges preferred against them, and, thereby, sentenced them to death by hanging.

The trial lasted for four years
