Court remands wife for killing husband in Rivers

A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has remanded a 40-year-old woman, identified as Telma Bestman for allegedly killing her husband, Wagbara Bestman.

She was accused of conspiring with others at large to shoot and kill  the deceased following disagreements between them.

The suspect and her accomplices were said to have attacked the victim at their residence at 15 Chiwota Street, Rumuolumeni town in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on February 13, 2020.

The suspect, a mother of four, is being prosecuted by the police on a two-count charge bordering on murder.

The prosecutor, A. C Kennedy, told the court that the offence committed by the accused person is punishable under Sections 324 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol. II, Laws  of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.

Chief Magistrate, Ipalibo Iyiabo, who declined jurisdiction to entertain the matter, transferred the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

Iyiabo, however, remanded the accused in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service facility.

He adjourned the matter to August 3, 2020 for mention.
