Bulldozers Roll Into Guzape as AMMC Begins Demolitions of 24 Two-Storey Buildings

The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), operating under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has ordered the demolition of 24 two-storey buildings constructed without approval on a waterway in Guzape.

These buildings, developed by Cityscape Estate on Plot 4851, were flagged for violating planning rules. AMMC Coordinator Felix Obuah made the announcement during an inspection tour with top council officials.

According to Obuah, the structures lacked the necessary approval and posed a clear threat to the Abuja master plan. He described the act as a serious violation of the city’s building regulations.

“We have mobilised equipment, materials, and machines on-site. These illegal buildings erected without approval will go down,” he stressed.

He warned that any similar constructions on water channels or road corridors would also face demolition.

“Any other building without proper approval, especially those constructed on waterways or road corridors, will be demolished.

It is no longer business as usual; we are committed to restoring Abuja to its original master plan,” he said.

He also pointed fingers at any council staff involved in allowing such breaches, warning of strict disciplinary actions.

The council has granted a two-week grace period to allow for voluntary removal, following a request from the developer.

Kadiri Obaidi, the developer, admitted to the violations and partly blamed them on actions taken by some of the property subscribers.
