The Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square has delivered a verdict in the harrowing case that gripped the nation — sentencing BRT driver, Andrew Nice Ominikoron, to death by hanging for the brutal murder of 22-year-old fashion designer, Bamise Ayanwola.
Presiding over the case, Justice Sherifat Sonaike handed down the capital sentence on Friday after finding Ominikoron guilty of murder, rape, and other related charges.
The court ruled that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Ominikoron was responsible for the young woman’s death, which occurred in March 2022 after she boarded his BRT vehicle.

In addition to Ayanwola’s murder, Ominikoron was also convicted for sexually assaulting Dr. Anosike Victoria and raping Maryland Ojiezelu, leading to a total of five charges including conspiracy to commit felony and rape.
Despite his persistent claims of innocence, the evidence presented led the court to a damning conclusion.
The judgment brings a measure of closure to a case that sparked public outrage and renewed concerns over passenger safety in Lagos’ public transport system.
