BREAKING: Gunmen abduct ex-Plateau gov, Dariye’s father

Armed kidnappers, early Thursday morning, abducted the nonagenarian father of the former Plateau State Governor, Joshua Dariye, in Mushere, Bokkos Local Government Area of the state.

The incident is the second time Pa Defwan Dariye, said to be in his early nineties, would be kidnapped. The first time was in February 2015, when he was kidnapped from his residence in Mushere. But after a few days, he was rescued by vigilance operatives along the Nasarawa /Plateau boundaries.

The Victim’s son, Joshua Dariye, is currently serving a 10-year jail term for corruption. He served as Plateau governor between 1999 and 2007.

In Thursday’s kidnap incident, his abductors were said to have stormed his house in Mushere and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

Residents of the community, who pleaded not to be identified, confirmed Pa Dariye’s kidnap.

They said that the incident had created panic and anxiety in the community.

An aide to the Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Magit Mangut Mafiyai also confirmed the abduction of the former governor’s father.

Mafiyai said that the Council Chairman, Yusuf Mahanan Machen, had visited Pa Dariye’s residence, and asked the security agencies to be proactive and do everything within their powers to rescue him.

Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Ubah Ogaba, said that security agents had been deployed to the Council Area to rescue Pa Dariye and arrest his abductors.

“As soon as we got the information, the Commissioner of Police led other officers to Bokkos. The security team detailed to go after the abductors have already swung into action and we hope the victim will be released soon,” he said.
