Thrid Republic governor of old Ondo State (comprising Ondo and Ekiti States), Bamidele Olumilua, has died aged 80.
The former diplomat died in the early hours of Thursday in Ikere Ekiti, his hometown in Ekiti State, after a brief illness.
He was born in 1940.
During the aborted Third Republic, Olumilua was the Social Democratic Party governor of the old Ondo State between January 1992 and November 1993.
The former governor’s son, who is the current Commissioner for Information in Ekiti State, Muyiwa Olumilua, confirmed his father’s death.
According to Muyiwa, “Baba died today (Thursday) around 3 am. We thank God that he lived a good and worthy life and we are proud of his personality and achievements while alive.
“Burial arrangements will be announced later.”
