Tension and grief have gripped the Dole Moriki community in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State after a group of armed bandits launched a deadly attack on a mosque during Isha (night) prayers on Saturday.
According to intelligence sources cited by counterinsurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the attack occurred around 8:00 p.m. when the assailants stormed the village and opened fire on Muslim worshippers gathered in the mosque.
“One person was confirmed dead at the scene, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries as the bandits shot sporadically at worshippers during the prayer session,” Zagazola reported.
The violent intrusion disrupted the peaceful evening prayers and plunged the village into chaos, with residents reportedly fleeing in fear as gunshots rang out.

Security operatives have since been deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further attacks. Locals say the presence of security personnel has helped return a semblance of normalcy to the shaken community.
The injured victims were taken to the General Hospital in Moriki, where they are currently receiving medical attention. The body of the deceased was also taken to the facility before being released to the family for burial according to Islamic rites.
This latest incident underscores the persistent insecurity plaguing parts of northern Nigeria, particularly in Zamfara, where banditry continues to threaten lives and destabilize communities.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but residents are calling for urgent intervention to prevent further bloodshed and ensure the safety of vulnerable communities in the region.
