Bala Mohammed Knelt Before Wike to Secure Election Fund — Dogara

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has disclosed that Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), funded the 2019 governorship election of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.

Reacting to Governor Mohammed’s recent comments labelling Wike as a “transactional politician” and a “serial betrayer,” Dogara issued a detailed statement recounting Wike’s critical role in securing Mohammed’s victory.

In the statement personally signed by him, Dogara alleged that Governor Mohammed once knelt before Wike in Port Harcourt to secure financial support for his campaign.

He stated, “Governor Bala Mohammed’s recent outbursts against His Excellency Nyesom Wike, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, though not entirely surprising, have only served to expand the vistas of ingratitude and treachery based on what I know.”

Dogara explained that in 2018, ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primaries, Wike’s intervention was pivotal to Mohammed’s emergence as the party’s candidate.

“I had called Wike to plead with him to help us in Bauchi without necessarily disclosing that it was Bala Mohammed we wanted delivered,” Dogara recounted.

“Wike made his ally, Chief Dan Orbih, chairman of the primaries panel, provided a private jet, and bore all expenses for the exercise.”

Dogara further revealed that after Mohammed won the primaries, it became apparent he lacked funds for his campaign. Attempts to raise money through a fundraiser yielded only ₦28 million.

“We flew to Port Harcourt with Bala Mohammed to seek Wike’s help. Wike initially expressed reservations, citing past grievances with Bala, but eventually provided significant financial assistance and even a private jet to ferry us back to Abuja,” Dogara revealed.

He accused Mohammed of betraying Wike despite his support, saying, “What happens to the golden adage that you don’t attempt to break the calabash from which you once sucked honey?”

Dogara described Mohammed as morally bankrupt and accused him of betraying those who helped him rise to power, including elder statesman Alhaji Bello Kirfi.

“Between Wike and Bala, it is clear who has demonstrated courage, focus, and determination,” Dogara stated, recalling Mohammed’s own praise for Wike during their time as allies.

Dogara concluded by criticising Mohammed’s alleged disregard for truth and loyalty, remarking, “We cannot continue to run a therapy session for a troubled pyromaniac.”
