Babcock University has expelled a student, Oladipupo Siwajuola, following his indictment for multiple serious infractions, including involvement in fetish practices, drug peddling, impersonation, and gross dishonesty.

The university announced the expulsion in an official statement released on Wednesday and signed by the Director of Marketing and Communication, Dr. Joshua Suleiman. The disciplinary action follows weeks of public controversy after Siwajuola’s mother accused the institution of negligence over her son’s disappearance in April.

According to the university, Siwajuola deliberately exited the Ilishan-Remo campus on April 28, 2025, without authorisation. Disguised in a hoodie, he reportedly sneaked out through the university’s teaching hospital gate. The school insisted that his disappearance was “neither accidental nor the result of negligence” but rather a calculated act tied to multiple breaches of its code of conduct.

After he was returned to campus by his father on May 15, Siwajuola was invited for questioning by the Security Services Department and later appeared before the university’s Disciplinary Committee. In his written and verbal statements, the student reportedly admitted to several offences.

Among his confessions, Siwajuola revealed he had purchased a black soap for N100,000 from a traditional herbalist, admitting it was intended for ritual purposes linked to internet fraud, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo Plus.”

He also confessed to drug peddling, gambling with borrowed funds, and impersonating another student to open a bank account.

Additionally, he sold his personal phone without consent and misled the buyer about receiving parental approval.

Contrary to his mother’s claim that he was found by former classmates, the university disclosed that he was discovered by the mother of a friend he was staying with in Lagos, who alerted his family due to the growing online uproar over his disappearance.

“Following a thorough investigation, Siwajuola was found culpable of multiple violations, including unauthorised campus exit, possession of fetish materials, drug peddling, impersonation, dishonesty, and unauthorised sale of personal property,” the statement said.

The university stressed that the decision to expel him was made in line with its disciplinary policy and international best practices.

“While we recognise the emotional weight of this decision, especially for the family involved, our foremost responsibility remains the safety and moral integrity of all students entrusted to our care,” Suleiman noted.

Babcock University also condemned what it called “sensational and baseless accusations” by Siwajuola’s mother, who had accused the institution of complicity. However, the university said it would not pursue a libel case in light of the “responsible conduct” demonstrated by the student’s father.
