Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has launched a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of entrenching inequality and worsening the economic misery of ordinary Nigerians.
In a statement released to mark the second anniversary of President Tinubu’s tenure, Atiku described the government as “incompetent, disconnected, and anti-people,” alleging that it has not only failed to address the country’s deepening poverty but has also widened the gap between the rich and the poor.
According to Atiku, no administration in Nigeria’s democratic history has “inflicted this level of hardship” on its citizens, with little regard for transparency, accountability, or fiscal responsibility.
“This government has not only deepened poverty across the country, but it has also set new records in wasteful public spending,” the former vice-president stated.
He condemned what he called a glaring disparity in governance priorities, accusing Tinubu’s administration of living in luxury while the majority of Nigerians grapple with survival.

“At a time when millions of Nigerians struggle to survive, government officials are living in excess and approving budgets that benefit the elite at the expense of the common man,” Atiku said.
He further decried the worsening humanitarian situation in the country, noting that under Tinubu’s watch, Nigeria has surpassed even war-ravaged Sudan to become the African country with the highest number of malnourished children.
Atiku’s statement adds to a growing wave of public criticism as economic pressures, including inflation, subsidy removal, and rising unemployment, continue to weigh heavily on Nigerians.
The presidency has yet to officially respond to Atiku’s remarks.
