The Nigerian Army has confirmed that one of its personnel, Corporal Amina Maidoki, is currently under investigation for alleged involvement in a theft incident.
In a statement released on Tuesday by Brigadier General Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the military said Maidoki is being detained in line with the Armed Forces Act and internal protocols governing discipline within the force.
“Her temporary detention is in accordance with the lawful procedures stipulated for service personnel,” the army stated.
General Anele emphasized that the Nigerian Army operates within a framework of established laws and ethical standards, and does not take disciplinary matters lightly or arbitrarily.
“Disciplinary measures within the Nigerian Army are governed by due process,” she said. “All personnel are entitled to procedural fairness, and the investigation is being carried out with full respect for Corporal Maidoki’s legal and human rights.”
The statement further addressed claims circulating online that Maidoki was being unlawfully detained and denied legal representation. General Anele dismissed the allegations as “false” and “deliberate attempts to mislead the public and provoke undue sentiment.”

She assured that the soldier is receiving appropriate welfare and that her family’s concerns are acknowledged.
“We sympathise with the emotional toll this situation may cause her loved ones,” she added. “The Army remains open to lawful engagement, provided such communication aligns with operational and investigative standards.”
Reaffirming its commitment to upholding military discipline and justice, the army reminded the public that no individual is above the law.
“All allegations of misconduct are thoroughly and lawfully investigated to preserve the integrity and cohesion of the service,” the statement read.
The military urged the public and media to refrain from speculative reports and allow the internal process to proceed without interference, assuring that further updates will be shared in due course.
