Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State says the All Progressives Congress, APC, members remain steadfast in backing President Bola Tinubu’s administration in spite of persistent opposition criticism.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with progressive governors and ministers on the 14th of May, 2025, Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors Forum, PGF, said opposition voices were loud at the start of the administration, especially in attacking the president’s reform policies.
“At the beginning of this administration, opposition voices were very loud in criticising the government’s reform policies. But today, the President is being vindicated,” Uzodimma said.
He pointed to growing support from global institutions like the World Bank and IMF, who now commend Tinubu’s leadership and policy direction. For him, that international recognition is a strong indicator that the reforms are working.
He also spoke on the composition of those present at the meeting, stressing that APC operates a partisan democratic system where political offices are filled through party sponsorship. He noted that every attendee at the meeting regardless of position belongs to the APC.
“This government was produced by all progressive governors. Every person here today is an APC member, regardless of their official position. We’ve come together to congratulate ourselves and Nigeria on recent developments,” Uzodimma stated.
He said they used the meeting to discuss ways to keep supporting both party members and Nigerians who continue to believe in the APC project despite the noise and criticisms. According to him, the party is refining its strategies to better serve the country and stay responsive.

“We have a duty to support this brave man, who is committed to Nigeria’s progress,” he said, referring to President Tinubu.
As the administration prepares to mark its second anniversary, Uzodimma said the party is ready to highlight milestones and confront lingering challenges. He added that the APC National Working Committee would soon unveil detailed plans for the anniversary events, with full involvement expected.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, also spoke after the meeting. He described it as an internal APC gathering that brought together governors, ministers, and members of the National Working Committee.
“This was a family meeting of APC governors, ministers and National Working Committee members,” Idris said.
He explained that the aim was to assess how far the administration has come, especially with the midterm milestone approaching. Idris said they are satisfied with what has been done so far and plan to do more to publicize government efforts.
“We are pleased with what has been achieved so far. There’s much to showcase,” he said.
He revealed that the party will also increase engagement with citizens, collecting feedback and using it to guide future actions.
For Idris, these meetings are not just about reviewing performance they are about staying connected and planning for what comes next.
