Another 21-yr-old undergraduate raped, killed in Ibadan

A 21-year old undergraduate of the Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, Oyo State, Grace Osiagwu, has been reportedly raped and killed at the weekend in Idi-Ori, Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.

Grace was killed by suspected rapists in a Mission house of a Pentecostal church, (name withheld).

An eye witness account stated that the deceased was raped before she was later killed by the assailants.

The source added that her head was smashed with stones, thereby giving the impression that it might not be far from ritual killing.

The incident brought to three the numbers of students who had suffered similar fate in the last one month in the same locality, Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident on the phone, state Police Public Relations Officer, Superitendent Fadeyi, described the act as heinous, and assured the public that police would soon unravel the mystery.

According to him, “The Police in Oyo State is on top of the situation. The Command has deployed tactical team led by the State Commissioner of Police to the area.

“Concerted efforts have been put in place to arrest and bring to book the perpetrators.

“A suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing of Azzezat Shomuyiwa, who was seven months pregnant. He is presently in the Police custody.

“It is sad that another undergraduate was raped and killed in the same local government area at the weekend.

“As part of measures to unravel the mystery, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, FSARS, DPO, CID, have been relocated to the axis.”

The PPRO, therefore, solicited the support of the people in the area in the efforts to return normalcy to the area.

He assured that the assailants would be arrested in no distant time and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“Very soon, all the suspects will be arrested and showcased to the public,” he said.
