Alia’s Two-Year Education Push Earns Praise from SUBEB

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has earned high praise from the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for what it described as “unprecedented transformation” in basic education since he took office.

In a message signed by SUBEB Executive Chairman, Dr. Grace Adagba, and shared with journalists in Makurdi, the board credited Alia with breathing new life into the public school system through focused reforms and hands-on governance.

Adagba, speaking on behalf of SUBEB’s staff and leadership, said the governor has shown “what is possible when visionary leadership is matched with purposeful action.”

She highlighted a range of developments across Benue’s schools in the past two years:
• Renovation and construction of school buildings
• Supply of desks, chairs, and learning tools
• Installation of clean water and sanitation systems

According to the statement, these changes prove “true transformation is achievable with political will.” Adagba said the governor’s efforts had restored dignity to the public school system, which had long suffered from decay.

SUBEB also pointed to major reforms introduced under Alia’s leadership:
• A transparent e-payment platform for teachers
• Continuous teacher training initiatives
• Distribution of new instructional materials
• Launch of libraries both digital and traditional

“These are not just achievements,” Adagba said. “They are bold steps that reaffirm this government’s dedication to quality education, literacy, and digital inclusiveness for all.”

She praised the administration’s revival of sports and creative arts in schools, as well as the transparent recruitment of thousands of teachers through CBT.

She added that prompt payment of salaries and pensions, a new minimum wage, and the return of nursery sections to public schools show that education is being treated as a serious tool for building the state’s future.
Adagba also called attention to the construction of modern school buildings fitted with whiteboards, a sign that the era of chalk and worn classrooms is coming to an end.

Looking ahead, she expressed hope for even more progress.

“We celebrate the Governor’s achievements, and we pray for continued strength, wisdom, and grace to lead Benue State to even greater heights,” the statement concluded.
