Afenifere Faction Disowns Statement Criticising Tinubu, Backs Govt Policies

The pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has distanced itself from a widely circulated report falsely attributed to the organisation as a mid-term assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 5, by its National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, Afenifere said the report did not originate from the group and should be “disregarded by members of the public.”

Ajayi explained that while the organisation is aware of the many difficulties Nigerians are experiencing, it has consistently communicated its concerns to government officials, along with practical suggestions for improvement.

“We also understand that steps are being taken by the government to tackle these challenges with a view not only to bringing relief to suffering Nigerians but also to putting in place frameworks that will guarantee a sound future for the country and the people,” the statement read.

Afenifere added that it will continue to provide support and offer constructive advice through appropriate channels, all in the interest of national progress.

“We shall continue to offer our support and advice, through established channels, to ensure an all-round success for the benefit of the teeming masses of our people,” it said.

Looking ahead to the second half of Tinubu’s tenure, the group expressed hope that the rising cost of food and transport would be significantly reduced, and that national security would improve, particularly through the implementation of state police.
