50-year-old teacher arraigned for attempted rape in Osogbo

A 50-year-old teacher, Aina Taiwo, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, on a two-count charge of attempted rape and assault.

Police prosecutor, Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 27, 2020 at about 10:55 am around Agunbelewo area of Osogbo, the state capital.

According to the prosecutor, the accused, “Taiwo attempted to commit rape and unlawfully assaulted Mark Kehinde F’ by giving her a blow on her mouth to the extent she sustained an injury on her mouth and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 359 and 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.”

But the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

When the Presiding Magistrate Opeyemi Badmus, gave a privilege to the complainant to answer some questions surrounding the alleged offence, she said, “I am a school teacher and a neighbour to the accused person.” 

Defence counsel, Nagite Okobe, applied for bail for his client in the most liberal terms. 

Magistrate Badmus admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety, who must be a level 7 civil servant officer in the state. 

He adjourned the matter July 9, 2020 for hearing.
